Looking Together: MFA Visit and Discussion With Nancy Gruskin and Kathleen Jacobs
Meet at the Museum of Fine Arts
The tour is limited to 20 participants
Finding inspiration from paintings at the MFA, painters Nancy Gruskin and Kathleen Jacobs will conduct an informative walk, look and talk about their favorite works in the museum's collection. Participants will meet at the museum at 10am sharp. As we walk through the different time frames, the discussion will be focused on simply understanding painting from a visual standpoint; the use of color, shape, form, composition, and the feelings or narrative that may be transmitted from the work. We will discuss how and why these works have inspired us and how they have changed over the centuries. Lunch together at the museum is an option (but not included in the fee) in order to continue our dialogue about our favorite paintings.
Wednesday, May 15, 10:00am–1:00pm
Fee does not include museum admission.

Plein Air Painting at Grounding Stone Farm with artist Kathleen Jacobs
Plein Air Painting at Grounding Stone Farm with Kathleen Jacobs
Instructor: Kathleen Jacobs
Join Kathleen Jacobs to paint at her "pick your own" organic blueberry farm. Grounding Stone Farm is located in beautiful southern New Hampshire, where the founder of Concord Art, Elizabeth Wentworth Roberts, had her summer home. The abundant organic blueberry fields provide a beautiful backdrop for your plein air painting experience and are within walking distance to the village of Contoocook. The farmstead includes adjacent rolling meadows and wandering woodland trails. The instruction will be designed to help beginners, intermediates, or advanced level painters seeking a certain visual unity when composing a painting, starting with a pencil sketch that will eventually become a one session, first-strike painting. Participants will have an opportunity to pick their own blueberries each day to enjoy with lunch, as well as bring home a pint or two as the weekend winds down. Grounding Stone Farm is within driving distance, an hour and fifteen minutes (depending on traffic) from Concord. Or you can make it a summer weekend getaway for two nights. See the list of hotel accommodations listed at www.groundingstonefarm.com.
Open to all painters using oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic or gouache. Arrangements will be made for taking lunch orders for sandwiches from the local cafe for eating on-site at the farm, but is not included in the workshop fee.
