Henry Keutmann has pursued a career in biomedical research in the Endocrine Unit at Mass. General Hospital for fifty years. His involvement with art dates to college days at Amherst, when he worked some in watercolors and —perhaps more durably—developed an interest in art history, especially the dynamic American art scene in the early 20th century, with its transition from traditional subjects and genres to—for many—more modernist and radical styles. He built up a small but representative collection of artists from that period, including the “Ashcan School” and their contemporaries. At Concord Art, where he has served on the Board the past six years, he has had the opportunity to explore and share in greater depth the accomplishments and contributions of pioneering artists from our region, nicely reflected in our own collection.
