Watercolor: About Layers and Color

Artist Marjorie Glick will demonstrate her signature style of working with complex transparent layers of wet into wet color that she uses to create her watercolors. She is known for her large scale and vivid realism watercolors that are inspired by the coastal Maine landscape and by the beauty found in nature. Her watercolors of natural subjects have a vivid, dramatic presence. She brings nature into crystalline focus as she works intense color into many transparent layers. They are elaborately detailed, introspective, and can take from four to ten months to complete. In this demo, she will show you her working process.

White Line Woodblock Printmaking

White line woodblock, a uniquely American form of printmaking, was developed in Provincetown, Massachusetts in the early 1900s. This low-tech, nontoxic and fun method produces beautiful multicolored prints from a single block with just a few simple tools, and no need for a press. Kate Hanlon, who has over 20 years experience in the medium, will take the audience through the process of creating a print, from design to execution. She will also demonstrate some alternative ways of printing the same block, to achieve creatively varied results. Kate's work may be found in many public and private collections.
