Watercolor, Alive and Free

This popular class motivates students to reach beyond their comfort zone and approach apaul_george painting with boldness and confidence. Paul will teach you a variety of techniques that will help you paint any subject as well as creating value studies, designing a good composition, and developing a good color sense and watercolor painting skills. Off Press Printmaking

barbara_ishikuraThis lively class will explore a variety printmaking forms without the use of a press. You will learn the additive and subtractive approaches to painting on plexiglass and mylar; using prepared images, you will make traced monotypes and prints with watercolors and Caran d’Ache artist’s crayons. Employing linoprint and rubber printmaking techniques, you will discover how your prints can take on a three dimensionality; other aspects that will be explored are gelatin prints, photo transfers and color graphs. Oil and Acrylic Painting From the Beginning

Chinese Ink Painting and Calligraphy

Supplement and enrich your painting style by learning traditional Chinese ink painting.Through demonstrations and individual instruction, you will learn basic sue_yangChinese calligraphy brushwork. You will study and paint traditional Chinese painting themes such as the bamboo plant, the orchid, the plum blossom and the landscape. The nuances and techniques of watercolor and ink will

Starting with a Photograph: Creativity and Photoshop

Taking inspiration from Sue’s work and using your own photographs as a starting point, you will experiment with drawing, watercolor, acrylic and collage to create original new work. Capture the Layers in Watercolor Painting
Level: Intermediate

This class will explore planning, design and value as well as the characteristics of marla_greenfieldlight and shadow.You will learn different watercolor techniques including glazing and mixing colors on paper. Learn how to generate rich dark values and how to layer the paint so that the lower layers shine through. Bring a photographic reference and a sketched piece. Artist Trading Cards

siri_smedvigThis class offers both artist and non-artist a playful vehicle of artistic freedom, and stretches the imagination while keeping within the required ATC’s constrained size of 2-½”x 3-½”. This class will address essential elements of art: line, shape, color, space, texture, value, and form. Mixed mediums will be used. The class will focus on a chosen theme with a quick demo, hands-on making and visual sharing. The structure of ATC ignites spontaneity and nudges one towards flowing experimentation! Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) are miniature works of art about the same size as modern baseball cards, small enough to fit inside standard card-collector pockets, sleeves or sheets. Cards are produced in various media, including dry media, wet media, paper media or even metals or cloth. The cards are usually traded and exchanged among artists.

Portraits in Pastel

If you've been intimidated by portrait painting, this is your chance to try it. Jeanne will jeanne_smithmake you feel at ease and help you simplify what you see. Each class begins with a demo, which introduces a basic approach to painting a child's portrait from photos, with emphasis on understanding proportions, shape, and value. You will focus on composition, flesh tones, handling backgrounds, playing with edges, and developing the details.
