Starting with a Photograph: Creativity and Photoshop

sue_yangDo you need help creating imaginative and artistic pictures on your computer? Taking inspiration from Sue’s work and using your own photographs as a starting point, you will experiment with drawing, watercolor, acrylic and collage to create original new work.

You will need to bring their your own laptop and Photoshop software. This class runs concurrently with “Chinese Ink Painting”.

Making Your Mark on Fabric

You will create collages from commercial fabrics and learn techniques of painting and printing on fabric. Use brainstorming techniques to mine personal stories as inspiration for your work. You will learn how to paint any subject starting with a value study, and then simplify and design a good composition using these values.  Next, you will move into the exciting world of color and watercolor techniques. Paul supports each subject with talks and demos and offers individual attention and a critique at the end of each class.

Oil and Acrylic Painting for Beginners

You will learn how to observe the landscape, capture it in quick sketches, create a good composition, paint value studies, and learn color application and oil painting techniques. Emily will teach you how to see the world around you by observing shape against shape, color against color, light against dark, and see the relationships of sizes to one another. Chinese Ink Painting and Calligraphy

Supplement and enrich your painting style by learning traditional Chinese ink painting. Through demonstrations and individual instruction, you will learn basic Chinese calligraphy brushwork. You will study and paint traditional Chinese painting themes such as the bamboo plant, the orchid, the plum blossom and the landscape. The nuances and techniques of watercolor and ink will be explored and demonstrated. Individual critique and group discussion are included. This class runs concurrently with “Starting with a Photograph”.

Color and Atmosphere in Pastel Landscapes

Pastels are pure color splashed, stroked and scumbled across the paper to create dazzling effects. This course offers beginners through advanced pastel painterjeanne_smiths fresh approaches to the flexible, vivid medium of pastel.  You will explore wet and dry techniques for applying pigment, and learn how composition, color temperature and value contribute to mood and atmosphere. Class will include instructor demonstrations with time for developing individual work.

PRINTMAKING WITHOUT A PRESS

Mixed Media Printmaking Without a Press

This unique class will focus on innovative techniques in creating unique prints without using a press. You will explore one different printmaking process each week. dayna_talbotYou will work on foam plates, gelatin plates, plexi-glass and linoleum. You will be encouraged to express yourself with mark-making and drawing, and to experiment with mixed media to create a rich surface effect. Introduction to Watercolor Painting

This workshop will offer demonstrations of wet-on-dry, and wet-on-wet and other techniques for rendering foliage, grass, tree bark, and stones. Along with thglenn_davise demonstrations, you will have plenty of time to practice and explore these techniques yourself. You will work with atmospheric perspective using color and value and not rulers or T-squares. Instruction in the use of color, color mixing, and methods of color harmony will be offered as well. Chacharles_shurclifferles believes that when color relations are working successfully in a painting, you catch the sense of sunlight and aliveness which is the magic of an outdoor scene. The focus of this workshop is on value, color and light - details are not important. Painting is en plein air and Charles will discuss seeing and observing, translating what you see, and then simplifying it on paper.  There will be a demonstration, individual instruction and a group critique at the end of the day.

From Realistic to Abstract: Watermedia Studio Workshop

Each morning, Ted will demonstrate two paintings–one semi-abstract moving from transparent and spontaneous watercolor into mixed media, and one realistic starting from a thumbnail approach. Alla Prima Watercolor Weekend

This workshop will teach you to paint in watercolor in the “alla prima” metom_sutherlandthod. This means
a painting will be created in a quick direct approach. Learn how
to simplify a scene, think in a more abstract way and apply the paint in a loose spontaneous style. All types of subject matter
will be demonstrated and painted (from photographs) including landscapes, interiors, city scenes and figures. There will be plenty of individual attention and end of the day group critiques.
